Forklift Repair and Maintenance Tips

We all know that Forklifts are critical to getting the job done on many different types of job sites. The worst thing that could happen is being unable to do the job because your primary piece of equipment is damaged or unsafe. Here are some important tips to help keep your forklifts in tip-top shape.

1. Read that Meter!

Every forklift should be given regular maintenance based on their usage intervals and time intervals. Time intervals are measured over the course of days, weeks, and months, while usage intervals are measured in key hours (time spent with the key in the ‘ON’ position) or pedal hours (time spent with the pedals actually in use).

2. Safety is Key!

Always choose a clean and well-lit area for forklift inspections, repairs or maintenance. Before starting any work on your machine, be absolutely sure that the engine is completely powered off and all moving parts are secured or lowered to make contact with the ground. Place blocks behind the wheels to ensure the forklift does not move and be sure to disconnect the battery and make sure the controls are set to neutral.

3. Ask the EXPERTS!

It is NEVER a good idea to operate on equipment you are not completely familiar with. When in doubt, ALWAYS call an expert. We have a great team of salesmen and mechanics right here at Forklift Hunter that you can always rely on.

4. Daily Maintenance is a MUST!

Tire pressure (for applicable tires) is just one item among many that MUST be checked daily. Having a functionality checklist for each machine that is performed every day before operation begins is a great way to ensure that your machines are always up to OSHA standards.

5. Don’t Overdo It!

It is never a good idea to overload your forklift. Each machine has a different capacity based on the model type, and the way the machinery is equipped. Never attempt to move a load that exceeds the forklift’s capacity.
